Athletic Development at Live Athletic
Build the Foundation. Maximise Potential.
At Live Athletic, we believe that youth athletes need more than just sport-specific training—they need a structured and age-appropriate foundation in movement, strength, speed, and coordination to truly thrive.
Our Athletic Development Program is designed for kids and teens who want to improve their athletic performance, prevent injuries, and develop lifelong movement skills in a safe and supportive environment.
What’s Included in the Program?
Gym-Based Athletic Development
Our supervised gym sessions help kids develop proper movement patterns, postural control, and whole-body strength. Each session incorporates age-appropriate resistance training including bodyweight exercises known as body leverage training, plyometrics, and coordination drills to build resilience and athleticism from the ground up.Speed & Agility Training
Speed matters. Our athletes train twice per week in structured speed sessions that target sprint technique, acceleration, and top-end speed.
A dedicated weekly agility session enhances reactive change of direction and sport-specific footwork.
Built by Experts. Backed by Science.
Our program has been developed by a multidisciplinary team of Exercise Physiologists, Exercise Scientists, and Physiotherapists. Every session is grounded in the latest research and long-term athlete development models—so you can trust that your child is in good hands, doing the right training at the right time
Why Timing Matters: Understanding Peak Height Velocity (PHV)
Train smart. Grow strong.
One of the most important factors in youth athletic development is training at the right time - especially during growth spurts.
Peak Height Velocity (PHV) refers to the period when a child experiences their fastest rate of growth during adolescence. For most kids, this occurs between ages 11–14 in girls and 13–15 in boys. It’s a critical window where the body is rapidly changing - bones grow faster than muscles can adapt, and coordination can temporarily decline.
At Live Athletic, our program is specifically designed to support kids before, during, and after PHV to make the most of these key developmental phases. Here's how:
Pre-PHV: We focus on movement quality, coordination, balance, and body control - building the foundation for future strength and power.
During PHV: We prioritise postural control, neuromuscular coordination, and safe strength training to reduce injury risk and support healthy growth.
Post-PHV: We introduce more advanced strength, speed, and power-based training to maximise athletic potential once the body is more physically mature.
Our expert team continuously monitors each athlete’s stage of development to ensure the training is age-appropriate and aligned with their growth stage - because timing is everything in athletic development
Playing Sport Isn’t Enough
Develop the body. Protect the athlete.
Just because your child plays a lot of sport doesn’t mean they’re physically prepared for the demands of it. In fact, high volumes of sport without structured athletic development is one of the biggest contributors to overuse injuries in young athletes.
At Live Athletic, our program is designed to build local tissue capacity and neuromuscular control - two critical components of injury prevention that are often missing from sport-specific training alone.
What does that mean?
Local tissue capacity is the ability of muscles, tendons, bones, and joints to handle load. If your child is playing several hours of sport each week, but hasn’t developed the strength and resilience in key areas (like the knees, ankles, hips and spine), they are more vulnerable to injury.
Neuromuscular control refers to how well their brain and body coordinate movement. Poor control leads to inefficient movement patterns and increased injury risk - especially during fatigue or rapid changes of direction.
Common adolescent injuries we aim to prevent include:
ACL injuries – often non-contact and linked to poor landing mechanics or muscle imbalances
Osgood-Schlatter’s disease – a painful condition at the front of the knee caused by repeated stress during growth
Sever’s disease – heel pain caused by inflammation of the growth plate in the foot
Lumbar stress fractures – lower back injuries common in young athletes with high training loads and limited core control
General knee pain – often due to poor hip/knee mechanics or overtraining
Joint hypermobility – which requires specific strengthening to stabilise loose joints
We don’t just train to perform - we train to protect the athlete, now and in the future. By strengthening the right structures and improving the way kids move, we reduce their risk of injury and help them enjoy sport with confidence and consistency.

Getting Started: Initial Assessments
Before joining group sessions, all athletes must complete two one-on-one appointments with one of our qualified coaches:
Initial Assessment & Sports Science Screening – $150
✅ Movement screening, growth stage analysis (PHV), injury risk profiling, and baseline performance testing
✅ An individualised training program is developed based on the resultsProgram Induction & Gym Orientation – $150
✅ One-on-one session to learn their personalised program
✅ Equipment orientation and safe lifting techniques
✅ Smooth transition into the supervised group environment
These sessions ensure that every athlete starts with a clear plan, safe technique, and confidence in the gym environment.
